Jaggers is the lawyer for Miss Havisham who offers Joe money to release Pip from his apprenticeship; Joe is insulted. Jaggers who has informed Pip that he is to be a young man of "great expectations," invites Pip to dinner where Pip meets his future foe, Bentley Drummle and Jagger's housekeeper, Molly, both of whom have rather surly dispositions. His clerk, Wemmick, is a humorous, though kind, man who also has Pip for dinner. Herbert, the pale young gentleman, is now Pip's new roomate in London; Herbert is incapable of managing his financial affairs.
