Who are the main characters in "A Christmas Memory?"

The main characters in the story are Buddy and his "friend." Although they do encounter other characters, like their other family members and Haha Jones, none of those characters play a significant role in the story, nor do we know very much about them. Their stories are unimportant to the plot of this story.

"A Christmas Memory" is also narrated by Buddy, so we see the plot revolve around him and his interactions with his friend, who seems to be the person he is closest to, not just in the household, but in general. He says that they are each others' best friends.

This story is a recounting of a memory from a Christmas past, and Buddy is looking back on it as a young adult who is off at school. It appears from the end of the story as well that his connection to his friend is very strong, and after he officially learns of her passing, he says it was as if he knew it already before anyone told him - so strong was their bond.

There are really only two main characters in this story because this memory is about their closeness.
