The attachement drive(distinct from freud's oral drive) is mammals tendency to keep proximity to a particular individual of the group. The baby holds  mothers breast, hands body or clothes to avoid what it would be a catastrophe.The ego-skin is based on this function as well as to certain skin functions; a sac that holds inside the good and total object representations, a barrier that keeps outside any penetrations or agression, a space to communicate,  a surface of inscription, the capacity to filter the exchanges etc. The Ego-skin instauration is a response to a narcissistic need for self protection. It assures  a basic well being when at the same moment the Ego differantiates its functions as the result of multiple object indentifications. Just to mention that skin its not only an external organ but it also envelops the internal organs of the body
